Drawing on the Empathy Navigation Pathway® and Carolyn’s honest, real world insight, this full day workshop creates space to explore what really sits beneath communication, beyond words, into emotion, perception and interpretation.

 

This is not about learning what to say. It is about understanding why we think, feel and respond the way we do.

It is about recognising the unseen influences, emotional load, cognitive bias, pressure, past experience, that shape our communication every day, and learning how to work with them, not against them.

What makes this day different
The morning session focuses on empathy as the starting point.

We explore:

  • Why empathy matters, not just for those we support, but in how we interpret, judge and respond to situations

  • How perception is shaped, including the role of cognitive bias, emotional load and lived experience

  • How quick judgements, assumptions and power dynamics can influence communication without us realising

  • The impact of the “funnel of life”, what we and others may be carrying, and how this shapes interaction

 

From here, the day builds into practical and reflective exploration of communication in real situations.

Not as a set of techniques, but as the ability to:

  • Recognise what is happening beneath the surface in ourselves and others

  • Understand the drivers behind reactions, decisions and behaviours

  • Respond in a way that is both human and effective, even in challenge

  • Understand how pressure, responsibility and environment shape perception and decision making

  • Recognise the signs of empathy being eroded and how this impacts outcomes for individuals and teams

  • Build confidence in navigating difficult conversations with greater awareness and clarity

  • Strengthen your ability to balance empathy with professional boundaries through Safeguarded Personal Communication (SPC®)

  • Reflect on how your communication impacts others, colleagues, teams, service users, customers, and relationships across any setting

  • Leave with practical, usable ways to approach communication more thoughtfully, without losing yourself in the process
